January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Learn how modern-day slavery affects your community by joining Center For Family Services, Cumberland County College, and the Displaced Homemaker Program for this educational event. Advocates from the Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV) program will lead workshops and a screening of TRICKED, a documentary film that goes behind the scenes of the crime of sexual exploitation. Students and professionals are encouraged to come and discover how prevention and recovery efforts are being utilized in South Jersey.
About TRICKED
Modern-day slavery is alive and well in the United States. Thousands of victims enter the sex trade each month to satisfy America's $3 billion a year sex trafficking industry. It’s an industry that is fueled by greed, fantasy, and the commercial sexual exploitation of children. Some opt in by choice, but most fall prey to the elaborate schemes of predators.
Meet the pimps, the johns, the police, the parents, and the victims of America’s thriving sex trade in this comprehensive documentary directed by Jane Wells. TRICKED uncovers the crimes taking place in our own backyards to our neighbors, friends, and daughters.
About SERV
SERV provides crisis intervention, counseling, and support to survivors of human trafficking, sexual violence, and domestic violence in South Jersey. Our dedicated team of highly trained and compassionate staff provide personalized care to help people follow a path to healing.
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control victims for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or labor services against their will. This event is one of many in which SERV aims to educate the public about human trafficking and provide information on how we can all help with prevention and recovery efforts in our community.
